Part Time Finance Officer

20–25 hours per week | Ideally across 4 days £40,000 FTE | 100% office based We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Officer to take responsibility for the day-to-day finances of a small but professional group of SME businesses. This is a new hire, so temporary or temp-to-perm could also be options. This is very much a hands-on finance role . The majority of your time will be spent looking after the transactional side of the accounts, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, banking and cash management. However, you'll also need the experience to take those accounts through month end and put together management accounts. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the variety and ownership that comes with working in an SME environment and wants to remain close to the day-to-day numbers rather than move into a more technical or commercially focused accounting role. What you'll be doing: • Managing the sales ledger from start to finish • Managing the purchase ledger, including supplier invoices and payments • Credit control and monitoring outstanding balances • Managing cash and day-to-day banking across the businesses • Completing bank reconciliations • Maintaining accurate accounting records across several SME companies • Taking responsibility for month-end processes • Completing balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and prepayments • Putting together monthly management accounts • Liaising with suppliers, customers and external accountants • Ensuring the finances across the businesses are accurate, organised and up to date What we're looking for: You’ll need solid, hands-on experience across both transactional finance and month end . You could currently be working as a Finance Officer, Senior Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Accounts Officer or similar. What matters most is that you’re equally comfortable getting involved in the everyday detail of purchase ledger, sales ledger and banking as you are pulling everything together at month end. This probably won’t suit someone looking to step away from transactional finance into a purely management accounting or analytical role. Equally, you'll need more than ledger-only experience, as you'll be expected to confidently take the accounts through month end. Experience within an SME, owner-managed business or multi-company environment would be particularly useful. The working pattern: The role is part-time, around 20–25 hours per week , ideally spread across four days , which could work particularly well for someone wanting to work school-friendly hours or simply looking for a better balance. The position is 100% office based in Solihull . Salary: £40,000 FTE, pro rata depending on agreed hours.
