Job Description
Introduction
Help shape customer solutions that make important financial decisions easier for New Zealanders.
At AMP, we’re bringing together products, advice, coaching and customer experiences to help people make more confident decisions about their financial future. We’re looking for a Solution Designer who can get close to a customer problem, understand the broader proposition and business context, and help people see what a better future experience could look like. You’ll turn customer insight, business needs and different perspectives into compelling solution concepts that make the opportunity tangible and help teams decide what is worth pursuing.
This is a role for someone who enjoys shaping the work before a solution is built: uncovering what really matters, framing the right problem, connecting it to our propositions and strategy, and exploring different ways we might solve it. You’ll help teams visualise the future experience, test whether it creates meaningful customer and business value, explore whether it can realistically be delivered, and build confidence in what to do next. You’ll work alongside Product and Proposition Leads across our Customer Solutions portfolio, helping translate proposition ambition and customer needs into experiences and solutions that are valuable, practical and deliverable.
About the role – Mō te tūranga mahi
In this role, you will:
• Explore customer and adviser needs through interviews, existing data, feedback and conversations with the people who deliver our services.
• Understand and visualise current and future customer journeys, identifying where experiences, propositions or services could be simpler, clearer or more valuable.
• Bring Product Leads, Proposition Leads and other stakeholders together to frame the right problem, connect it to our propositions and strategic intent, challenge assumptions and agree where solving it could create meaningful customer and business value.
• Bring future customer experiences and propositions to life in a way that helps stakeholders see the opportunity, understand the value of solving it and align around a direction.
• Develop and test solution concepts using the simplest useful approach, whether that is a sketch, a journey, a service concept or a quick prototype.
• Turn insight and testing into clear recommendations about what to pursue change, stop, or explore further, helping Product and Proposition Leads make informed decisions about where to focus effort and investment.
• Work within agreed time frames, focusing effort where it will make the biggest difference rather than trying to solve everything at once.
This is not a production UX or interface design role. You may create rough prototypes to make an idea tangible and test whether it works, but you won’t be expected to design finished screens or own the digital design system. You’ll work with our UX function when a concept moves towards detailed digital design and delivery.
What you’ll need to succeed – Ngā pūkenga matua o te tūranga
We’re looking for someone who has worked across a range of customer, service or business problems and is keen to keep learning. You might come from service design, customer experience, business design, proposition development or consulting. What matters most is what you have done and how you work.
You will bring:
• Experience turning customer insight and complex problems into clear, actionable recommendations.
• The ability to synthesise customer insight, strategy and business context into a compelling future experience or solution direction that others can understand and act on.
• The confidence to facilitate conversations, ask good questions and respectfully hold a point of view when stakeholders disagree.
• Sound judgement about how much research or testing is enough to make the next decision.
• An ability to work at pace, make trade-offs and deliver useful work within a time box.
• A practical approach to prototyping and testing ideas, without needing to be a specialist interface designer.
• Curiosity, energy and a willingness to work closely with others to improve an idea.
You may have gained that experience through several years of fast-paced and varied work in consulting or within a larger cross-functional organisation. Financial services experience is helpful, but not essential. We’re equally interested in people who have tackled complex customer problems with meaningful real-world outcomes in other sectors.
