Job Description
My client houses litigation partners who are Doyle’s Guide-ranked commercial litigation and dispute resolution specialists. Founded by highly respected ex law firm partners, their specialist practice handles high-stakes, complex litigation across the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
Based in the heart of Christchurch, my client offers a fast-paced, high-reward environment with an agile team of staff where every team member plays a critical role in their ongoing growth and success.
My client is looking for an exceptional, highly resilient Litigation Secretary to provide crucial executive and operational support to two Founding Partners.
This is a dynamic, evolving position at a key phase of the firm’s expansion. Approximately 70% of the role focuses on litigation support, complex diary management, and court operations. The remaining 30% is an evolving workload of office administration and ensuring every lawyer has what they need to operate efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
• Litigation & Diary Management: Proactively manage complex, fluid calendars for two busy partners. Track, calendar, and safeguard compulsory court filing deadlines (High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court).
• Document & Trial Preparation: Prepare electronic and physical court bundles, format legal documents, assemble briefs, and handle urgent court filings.
• Inbox Triage & Priority Management: Manage and audit high-volume email inboxes, swiftly isolating urgent legal correspondence and critical court notices from general administration.
• Practice Operations: Manage daily office presentation, order legal stationery, coordinate suppliers, and assist with basic financial administration (AP/AR processing and expense reconciliations).
• Anything office support driven that helps the team perform their roles. What My Client Is Looking For
• Legal Litigation Exposure: Prior experience in a litigation support role. Familiarity with preparing court bundles and court filing tools is essential.
• High Emotional Resilience: A calm, level-headed, and adaptable composure when navigating tight court deadlines and intense litigation cycles.
• Ruthless Prioritisation: Proven ability to manage and execute on competing, compulsory deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy.
• Proactive Initiative: Enjoys a developing role and feels comfortable designing workflows and refining systems rather than just following a manual.
• Advanced Tech Literacy: Proficient in high-level Outlook diary management, digital court filing platforms, and document management systems. What My Client Offers
• Flexible Working Options: Open to candidates seeking a shorter working week (e.g., 30 hours per week) with flexible hours available, though full-time commitment and extra contributions are required during peak court periods.
• Top-of-Market Compensation: A generous salary package structured to reflect high performance and complex litigation work.
• Exceptional Perks: Catered dinners during crunch trial periods, and team lunches/events.
• Growth Potential: A foundational position that will grow as the firm continues to expand. Please get in touch to hear more - Lisa Gray E: lgray@tylerwren.co.nz or T: 09 973 5470
