10th September, 2026 JOB TITLE: Data Engineering Intern (Cloud & AI Focus) LOCATION: Paramatta, Sydney TYPE: Internship (3 days per week) ABOUT THE POSITION: We are looking for a motivated Data Engineering Intern to join our team and help build the future of our data infrastructure. ABOUT YOU: You must: • Be studying a relevant degree qualification (Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related) or be a recent graduate. • Have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken. • Possess a foundational understanding of at least one major cloud platform (Azure, GCP, or AWS). • Be genuinely curious about AI/ML workflows and how data pipelines power intelligent applications. • Be committed to a career in data engineering, cloud architecture, or AI infrastructure. • Be able to work at least 3 days per week. LEARNING OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES: You will gain hands-on experience and be exposed to interesting work in the following areas: Cloud Data Platforms: • Assisting in the design and deployment of cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes (e.g., Azure Synapse, GCP BigQuery, AWS Redshift/S3). • Configuring and managing cloud storage, compute resources, and networking for data workloads. • Implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Bicep under supervision. Data Engineering & ETL/ELT: • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from various sources (APIs, databases, streaming data). • Performing data transformation and orchestration using tools like Azure Data Factory, GCP Dataflow, AWS Glue, or Apache Airflow. • Monitoring pipeline performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency. AI & Advanced Analytics Exposure: • Preparing and curating high-quality datasets for machine learning and AI model training. • Collaborating with data scientists to productionize ML models (MLOps) using cloud AI services (e.g., Azure ML, GCP Vertex AI, AWS SageMaker). • Exploring and implementing vector databases or semantic search solutions to support generative AI use cases. Data Governance & Quality: • Implementing data validation, cleansing, and deduplication processes. • Managing metadata, data lineage, and data cataloging to ensure data discoverability and governance. • Supporting security best practices, including role-based access control and data encryption. Reporting & Optimization: • Optimizing query performance and storage costs within the cloud environment. • Troubleshooting data pipeline failures and implementing robust error-handling mechanisms. • Documenting data engineering processes, data dictionaries, and system architectures.
