Senior Software Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend expertise and a solid understanding of frontend development to join our team and help build reliable, high-performing services that support SkyCell’s growing technology platform. You’ll take ownership of designing and evolving our Java-based backend applications, while also bringing your frontend knowledge to help create well-rounded technical solutions across the stack. You’ll contribute to technical decisions and best practices, mentor others, and work closely with engineers, business analysts and testers to solve problems and continuously improve how we build and deliver software. Location: For this role, we can either consider fully remote or hybrid if you are located within a commutable distance to Hyderabad, India. What You'll Do: • Design and implement high-quality server-side code in line with coding standards • Optimise application performance, quality, and responsiveness • Build and evolve services using Java (Quarkus), JPA/Hibernate, and SQL • Ensure production-grade observability through structured logging, metrics, and tracing, alongside robust error handling • Participate in architecture and design reviews, and share guidance and feedback through code reviews • Ship continuously in an agile environment with automated testing and CI/CD • Troubleshoot production issues, deliver timely fixes, and conduct thorough root-cause analysis • Research, evaluate, and prototype new technologies where they add clear value • Contribute to the team's coding standards and best practices • Support and mentor junior team members • Contribute to technical decision-making and strategy across the team and organisation • Identify and address security vulnerabilities in the system • Collaborate with business analysts to clarify requirements and with testers to debug issues and review test case coverage • Write and maintain clear, useful technical documentation What You'll Bring: • 5+ years of experience developing applications with Java and a Java framework (preferably Quarkus, although experience with other frameworks is also welcome) • Strong experience with SQL, JPA, and Hibernate • Strong experience building RESTful APIs • Experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript is advantageous • An understanding of frontend development and experience working with frontend frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue is beneficial • Effective communication in English and a collaborative approach to working across functions If you don't meet every requirement but bring relevant experience, we'd still like to hear from you.
