Insurance Litigation Lawyer

About the Opportunity An outstanding opportunity exists for a New Zealand qualified litigation lawyer to relocate to Melbourne and join a high performing General Insurance practice within a leading Australian national law firm. This role is particularly suited to a New Zealand lawyer with experience in civil litigation, public liability, personal injury or related insurance matters who is looking to take the next step in their career in Australia. You will join a nationally recognised insurance practice acting for leading insurers, underwriters and corporate insureds across Australia, with exposure to complex and high value disputes. This is an opportunity to take the litigation skills you have developed in New Zealand and apply them within a larger and highly sophisticated Australian insurance market. The Work You will work across a broad General Insurance practice, with a particular focus on: • Public liability and general liability claims • Personal injury litigation • Insurance defence litigation • Professional indemnity disputes • Product liability matters • Property damage and third party claims • Coverage and indemnity advice The work spans both defence litigation and advisory matters, providing exposure to complex disputes and a sophisticated insurer and corporate client base. What You Will Do • Run your own litigated files with support from experienced senior lawyers and Partners • Draft liability, coverage and indemnity advice • Manage disputes through litigation, mediation and resolution • Engage directly with insurers and corporate clients • Develop strong client relationships • Work alongside experienced insurance practitioners on complex and high value matters • Contribute to the continued development of the wider practice What We Are Looking For • 3 + years PQE in civil litigation • Experience in insurance, public liability, personal injury, general liability or related litigation is preferred • Strong drafting and legal analysis skills • Experience managing your own files with appropriate autonomy • Confident client facing communication skills • A genuine interest in developing a long term career in the Australian legal market • New Zealand qualified lawyers are strongly encouraged to apply You do not need to have spent your entire career in insurance. The role would suit a strong civil litigator whose experience is transferable into a General Insurance practice. Why Melbourne?
