Introduction
Our client is looking for a Junior Cost Controller to be based in Midrand.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist with the capture, verification and maintenance of project cost information.
• Assist in maintaining approved project budgets, cost codes, activity codes and cost allocation structures.
• Capture and reconcile actual project costs against the correct project, cost code and activity.
• Maintain registers for commitments, purchase orders, invoices, accruals and expenditure.
• Reconcile cost information received from Procurement, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Plant and Site teams.
• Maintain complete electronic cost records and supporting documentation to provide a clear audit trail.
• Identify incomplete, incorrect or unsupported cost information and refer discrepancies to the responsible Cost Controller, Project Manager, Procurement or Commercial representative.
• Escalate unexplained cost variances, missing information or control exceptions to the responsible Cost Controller.
• Undertake other cost-control-related duties appropriate to the level of the position.
• Assist with the reconciliation of supplier, subcontractor and plant-related invoices against supporting documentation.
• Check that invoices are supported by applicable purchase orders, delivery records, timesheets, measurements, plant records and other required documentation.
• Assist with monitoring labour, plant, material, subcontractor and other project costs.
• Assist in maintaining variation, change and commercial registers.
• Support monthly accrual and cost-to-complete processes by collecting and verifying project information.
• Assist with budget-versus-actual and commitment reconciliations and promptly raise discrepancies for review.
• Assist with CCS Candy and/or BuildSmart cost information and project coding, where applicable.
• Maintain cost-control registers and supporting data in accordance with the approved project structure.
• Assist with the preparation of weekly project cost reports and project health information.
• Support data integrity by ensuring that project, cost-code and activity allocations are complete and consistent.
• Maintain document references and electronic filing required for cost-control auditability.
Desired Experience & Qualification
• Relevant Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, Project Controls or a related discipline.
• 0-2 years relevant experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, engineering or project environments.
• Good Microsoft Excel skills.
• Basic understanding of budgets, cost codes, purchase orders, invoices, commitments, accruals and project cost reporting.
• Exposure to CCS Candy advantageous.
• Exposure to BuildSmart or another construction ERP advantageous.
• Understanding of controlled-document and audit-trail requirements.
• Working knowledge of and compliance with the Company's applicable QMS, procedures and project-specific requirements; ISO 9001 awareness advantageous.
