Payroll Officer Global Manufacturing Leader | Melbourne's North‑East $80,000 – $90,000+ Super | Full‑Time, Onsite The Company Our client is a respected global manufacturing organisation with a strong local presence and a proud history of delivering high‑quality products to customers worldwide. As the business continues to grow, they are now seeking a skilled Payroll Officer to join their close‑knit finance team and take true ownership of the end-to-end payroll function. The Role This is a payroll-first position for a seasoned Payroll Officer who is confident taking full ownership of the function from start to finish. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll across the business, with a strong working knowledge of EBAs, Australian Fair Work Awards, and complex commission structures being essential to your success in this role. Key Responsibilities Payroll — Core Function • Full end-to-end payroll processing across monthly and fortnightly pay cycles, from timesheet collection through to payment and reconciliation • Interpret and apply Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs) and Australian Fair Work Awards, including overtime, allowances, penalty rates, and employee classifications • Calculate and process complex commission structures accurately and in line with individual agreements • Manage superannuation, payroll tax, leave balances, and all EOFY deliverables including STP finalisation • Ensure ongoing payroll system accuracy across all employee data, salary changes, and entitlement updates • Produce regular payroll reporting including GL reconciliations, payroll tax, leave liability, and people dashboards • Prepare and post payroll journals to the general ledger ensuring accurate and timely month-end entries • Assist with month-end accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations for payroll-related accounts including superannuation, PAYG, and leave provisions • Liaise with the Financial Controller on any payroll-related finance or audit requirements Finance Support • Assist with general journals and month-end entries as required • Support reconciliations and reporting across payroll-related balance sheet accounts • Liaise with the external accountant or auditor on payroll compliance matters as required Additional Responsibilities • Prepare employment contracts, variation letters, and new starter documentation • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and personnel files • Support probation review administration and policy compliance • Assist with HRIS and Time & Attendance system maintenance and data integrity About You You are an experienced Payroll Officer who takes genuine pride in accuracy and compliance, and is confident owning the full payroll function from start to finish. Your working knowledge of EBAs, Fair Work Awards, and commission calculations sets you apart, and you bring a sharp eye for detail and a proactive approach to everything you do. You will bring: • Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing • Strong, demonstrable knowledge of EBAs and Australian Fair Work Awards • Experience calculating and processing complex commission structures • Confidence preparing payroll journals and working closely with a finance team • High attention to detail, confidentiality, and sound judgement • A proactive and solutions-focused approach with the ability to work autonomously • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders across Finance and Operations • Exposure across Payroll, Finance and HR administration.
