We are looking for a skilled technical leader to design, build and maintain complex, scalable frontend applications using React. What you'll do: Frontend Architecture and Technical Direction Help shape frontend architecture and establish patterns that can be used across the team Make technical decisions and clearly communicate the reasoning and trade-offs behind them Design frontend applications and architecture at scale, thinking beyond individual features to the wider platform Contribute to the ongoing frontend rewrite and the long-term technical direction of the platform Identify technical risks, dependencies and areas of technical debt, and drive their resolution Advanced Frontend Development and Delivery Design, build and maintain complex frontend applications using React Take ownership of larger technical initiatives and projects from initial idea through to delivery Work closely with other engineers to deliver larger pieces of functionality Work effectively within large or complex codebases Learn and contribute to the broader technology stack as the team moves toward full-stack engineering Code Quality and Engineering Standards Review code and ensure adherence to standards, design patterns and best practices Help improve development practices, code quality and application performance Investigate difficult technical problems and drive them through to resolution Work with backend engineers and APIs to ensure a clean boundary between frontend and backend systems Technical Leadership and Mentorship Provide practical technical guidance to other engineers Mentor and help intermediate engineers work through problems Take responsibility for a technical area so the wider team can focus on delivery Bring and articulate technical opinions, while remaining open to alternative approaches Contribute to technical discussions and knowledge-sharing across the team Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field Relevant certifications in frontend or web development technologies Your Expertise: Around 7+ years' professional software development experience Communication skills (technical and non-technical audiences) Strong hands-on experience with ReactJS Interpersonal and relationship management skills Experience designing and working with frontend architecture at scale Advanced analytical skills Experience working with APIs and backend services Advanced problem-solving skills Experience with testing, performance and maintainability Ability to make technical decisions independently and explain the trade-offs Strong Git and code review experience Coaching and mentoring skills Experience taking ownership of projects from initial idea through to delivery Technical leadership Java and Spring experience would be beneficial, particularly for full-stack development Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript knowledge Strong understanding of component architecture, state management and application structure Deep understanding of frontend architecture and scalable design practices Knowledge of integrating frontend applications with APIs and backend services Strong understanding of testing, performance and maintainability principles Understanding of version control and code review practices Awareness of technical risk, dependencies and technical debt management Understanding of modern engineering practices within a delivery-focused team Other information applicable to the opportunity: Contract position Location: Stellenbosch
