Book Graphic Designer (Tamil)

Ambattur, Chennai Full-Time 1–3 Years Book Graphic Designer (Tamil) Peacock Design Solutions is looking for a Book Graphic Designer (Tamil) to lay out and typeset books for publishers, educational imprints and self-publishing authors. You will work on picture books, textbooks, novels, workbooks and coffee-table titles — handling interiors, covers and the prepress files that go to the printer. Key Responsibilities • Lay out and typeset book interiors — picture books, textbooks, novels, workbooks and activity books. • Build master pages, paragraph and character styles so a whole book stays consistent. • Design book covers including front, spine and back, with spine width calculated from the printer's paper spec. • Place and position illustrations, photographs and diagrams within the text flow. • Set front matter and back matter — title pages, copyright, contents, index and appendices. • Apply correct bleed, margin, gutter and safety areas for the binding method in use. • Prepare print-ready CMYK PDFs and run preflight before handover. • Produce EPUB and fixed-layout digital editions where required. • Incorporate proofreader and author corrections across revision rounds without breaking the layout. • Package source files with fonts and links, and keep project folders tidy for reprints. • Coordinate with illustrators, editors and the printer to keep schedules on track. Required Skills • Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign — master pages, styles, threading and tables. • Good command of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for image and vector work. • Solid typography fundamentals: type hierarchy, leading, tracking, widows, orphans and rivers. • Understanding of print production — CMYK, bleed, trim, imposition and paper stock. • Ability to work to a grid and keep a 200-page book visually consistent. • Experience preparing press-ready PDFs and resolving preflight errors. • Font licensing awareness and careful font management. • Accuracy under revision pressure, and the patience to proof your own pages. • Clear communication with editors, authors and printers. Preferred Skills • Experience with trade publishers, educational imprints or self-publishing platforms. • Familiarity with Amazon KDP and IngramSpark interior and cover specifications. • Experience setting multilingual or bilingual books. • EPUB production and accessibility basics for digital editions. • Basic InDesign scripting or GREP styles for repetitive formatting. • Working knowledge of Affinity Publisher or CorelDRAW. Tamil language reading and typesetting ability is preferred and treated as an added advantage. Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Printing Technology or a related field. • 1–3 years of professional book or publication design experience. • A portfolio showing complete books, not only single pages or covers. What We're Looking For Show us a book you set from manuscript to press. We'd rather see one 120-page title you finished properly — with the interior, the cover and the press PDF — than twenty unrelated design samples. If you can explain a layout problem you hit and how you solved it, that counts for more than the software list on your CV.
