Senior Electrical Engineer - Substations

About the Role Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with a deep expertise in substation design and operation for a fully remote position. This role is vital for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of substation projects supporting critical infrastructure for clients across South Africa, including the Klerksdorp region. You will leverage your extensive knowledge to ensure the integrity, reliability, and efficiency of high-voltage electrical systems. This remote opportunity allows you to contribute your valuable skills from your home office, collaborating with a national team of experts. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substations, including layouts, schematics, and equipment specifications. • Develop and review protection and control schemes for substations, ensuring system stability and safety. • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for substation engineering projects from conception to completion. • Conduct site inspections (when required, with travel support) and provide technical guidance for construction and commissioning phases. • Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analysis. • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Requirements • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. • 10+ years of progressive experience in substation engineering and high-voltage systems. • Proven track record in managing complex electrical infrastructure projects. • Expert knowledge of substation equipment, protection relays, and control systems. • Proficiency in simulation software such as ETAP, PSCAD, or similar. • Excellent remote collaboration and communication skills, with strong leadership qualities.
