Senior UX Designer

Job Summary: The Senior UX Designer is responsible for leading user experience design across four distinct delivery phases Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live following the Ontario Digital Service Design playbook. This role involves understanding user and business needs, facilitating user research, creating and validating prototypes, and continuously improving live services. The designer works collaboratively within Agile (Scrum) teams to deliver user-centered solutions that are mobile-first and responsive. Responsibilities: • Lead Discovery phase activities including stakeholder workshops, user research, and problem definition. • Create deliverables such as Business Model Canvas, User Personas, Stakeholder Mapping, User Storyboards, and Technical Service Blueprints. • Facilitate user interviews, synthesize findings, and produce comprehensive research reports. • Conduct and iterate on clickable prototypes during the Alpha phase, including usability testing and validation. • Develop Minimum Viable Products (MVP) in the Beta phase using Agile Scrum methodology, including user story creation, design workshops, and accessibility compliance testing. • Support continuous improvement in the Live phase through ongoing user research, usability testing, accessibility testing, and KPI analysis. • Collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and business teams to ensure alignment and progress. • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. • Identify and document process or policy changes needed to support new products or services. Required Skills & Certifications: • 3+ years of experience in UX design with a strong understanding of mobile-first and responsive design principles. • Proven expertise in UX software tools such as JustInMind, InVision, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, Axure, Figma, and Zeplin. • Experience facilitating user research and usability testing, including creation of interview scripts, topic maps, and synthesis reports. • Knowledge of Agile (Scrum) methodologies and experience working within Agile teams. • Degree or diploma in graphic design or related field; certifications in usability, human-computer interaction, or technical writing are a plus. • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Skills & Certifications: • Experience with accessibility compliance testing. • Technical skills in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, and NodeJS. • Experience in mediation and change management to overcome resistance and support project adoption. Special Considerations: • Must be able to collaborate effectively in a distributed team environment. • Ability to participate in and facilitate Agile ceremonies regularly. • Commitment to continuous improvement and iterative design processes throughout the service lifecycle. Scheduling: • Work schedule aligned with Agile project timelines and sprint cycles. • Participation in regular stand-ups, sprint planning, and review meetings as per Scrum methodology.
