Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work on a wide breadth of issues in the ACT Government? Do you want to help develop and manage the Territory’s budget, provide strategic policy and/or financial advice to senior executives and Government, and work on a range of financial reporting issues? The Finance and Budget Group in ACT Treasury, within the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD), is looking for Senior Analysts to join the team. These positions provide a great opportunity to gain a sophisticated understanding of the Machinery of Government and the Budget process, and to contribute to delivering the Government’s key policy and financial priorities – including planning and oversight of investments in infrastructure and government services in the ACT. The successful applicants will join a dedicated team undertaking a variety of work, which may include: preparing budget papers; reviewing business cases and writing briefing papers; participating in discussions and negotiations with agencies on policy and financial issues; preparing financial instruments; and reporting on agency and whole-of-government financial performance and budget pressures. We need people who are critical thinkers, strong communicators and team players; who are skilled at using data, research and analysis to inform advice on complex policy and/or financial issues; who possess skills in supervising, mentoring and developing staff; and who are capable of working on diverse and impactful issues in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where effective prioritisation, multitasking and sound judgement are essential. If this role sounds like a challenge you are interested in, we want to hear from you. The ACT Public Service supports workforce diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace. As part of this commitment, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse people and those who identify as LGBTIQ+ are encouraged to apply. Hear about CMTEDD from some of our staff. Eligibility/Other requirements: Tertiary or post graduate qualifications in relevant areas or equivalent experience. Notes: There are several positions available both permanent and temporary with the possibility of permanency. A merit pool will be established from this selection process which may be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months for both temporary and permanent positions. This position has moved to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. How to Apply: Please review the Position Description and apply by providing a written response (max. two pages) addressing all the Selection Criteria, and your current curriculum vitae (max. two pages), including details of two current referees. Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below. Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service. The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved. More information can be found here ACT Closing the Gap Implementation Plan - ACT Government Transparency Portal. #LI-DNI Note There are several positions available both permanent and temporary with the possibility of permanency.
