Senior Electrical Engineer - Renewable Energy Projects (Remote)

About the Role Our client is a leader in sustainable energy solutions and is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join their distributed team, operating remotely with a focus on projects near Upington and surrounding regions. This role is crucial for the design, development, and optimization of large-scale renewable energy installations, particularly solar photovoltaic (PV) farms. You will leverage your extensive expertise to lead technical aspects of projects, ensuring efficient energy generation and grid integration. Key Responsibilities • Lead the electrical design and engineering for utility-scale solar PV projects, from conceptualization to final documentation. • Perform complex electrical system analysis , including performance modeling, interconnection studies, and protection system design. • Develop detailed single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications for PV systems, inverters, and balance-of-plant components. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams across various locations. • Collaborate closely with project managers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure successful project execution. • Conduct technical reviews of contractor designs and proposals, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards. • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes in the renewable energy sector . Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on solar PV projects . • In-depth knowledge of PV system design principles, AC/DC electrical systems, grid interconnection requirements, and power electronics. • Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software relevant to solar energy (e.g., PVSyst, AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP). • Experience with project management principles and working effectively in remote team settings. • Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong analytical skills, and outstanding communication capabilities.
