Job Description
Company Description
Octane Systems has over 20 years’ experience in the fuel industry, developing an end-to-end ERP platform for customers across New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
Our strength lies in building deeply integrated systems - connecting fuel meters, POS platforms, in-cab truck solutions, and third-party systems alongside modern web applications. With our ERP platform at the core, we deliver an integrated ecosystem that reduces operational complexity and risk for our clients.
Job Description
Reporting to the Development Manager, you will contribute across both backend/system components and supporting web applications that extend our ERP platform.
Working alongside a team responsible for core ERP functionality, your focus will be on building and supporting the surrounding ecosystem.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on:
• Contributing to and extending our ERP platform through integrations, services, and supporting applications
• Integrating with external systems and APIs
• Working with data flows, imports, and system behaviour
• Supporting and enhancing web-based applications where required
You will take a structured, logical approach to understanding how systems operate end-to-end, and apply this to solving real-world integration and data challenges.
Qualifications
Core Requirements
• 4+ years’ experience with .NET and C#
• Experience working with backend, desktop, or systems-based applications
• Strong SQL/database skills, including query writing and data analysis
• Experience integrating with third-party systems and APIs
• Strong problem-solving ability and a natural curiosity for understanding how systems work
Additional / Supporting Skills
• Experience with ASP.NET / MVC / web applications
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS
• Experience building or consuming REST APIs
• Experience with C or C++, or other low-level/system programming (advantageous)
• Exposure to data transformation or import processes
• Reporting tools (e.g. Crystal Reports or similar)
• Unit testing (e.g. xUnit)
• Agile / Scrum experience
• Experience creating or interfacing with AI agents through code (advantageous)
About You
You’re a developer who enjoys working across systems — not just within a single layer of the stack. You’re comfortable getting into the detail of how data moves, how integrations behave, and how different components interact within a broader platform.
Experience in integration-heavy or data-centric environments will be highly regarded.
Additional Information
This role has the potential for a hybrid mix of WFH and in-office (2-3 days/week) in our Docklands location across the road from the picturesque South Wharf Marina in Melbourne.
Part of our pre-employment process includes a AFP (Australian Federal Police) check. Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia.
