We are seeking a highly technical FinOps Engineer to drive cloud financial management, optimization, and governance across our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. This is a hands-on engineering role that combines cloud infrastructure expertise, automation, financial analytics, and operational governance. The successful candidate will partner with Cloud Operations, SRE, Platform Engineering, and Finance teams to ensure cloud resources are deployed efficiently, operated responsibly, and continuously optimized for cost and business value. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with GCP services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform/Terragrunt, cloud billing data, automation, and large-scale cloud operations. What You'll Do Lead GCP Cost Optimization Initiatives • Analyze cloud spending across GCP environments and identify opportunities for optimization • Drive reduction of waste across: • Compute Engine • GKE • AlloyDB • BigQuery • Cloud SQL • Cloud Storage • Networking • Identify rightsizing opportunities and utilization improvements • Optimize commitment strategies including: • Committed Use Discounts (CUDs) • Sustained Use Discounts • Track realized savings and cost avoidance initiatives Build and Operate FinOps Tooling • Develop and maintain FinOps dashboards, reporting, and automation solutions • Leverage: • GCP Billing Export • BigQuery • Looker Studio • Cloud Monitoring • Build automated cost reporting and anomaly detection capabilities • Create self-service visibility for engineering and product teams Drive Infrastructure-as-Code Governance • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code standards using: • Terraform • Terragrunt • Embed cost controls into infrastructure deployment workflows • Implement guardrails to prevent inefficient resource provisioning • Ensure tagging and resource ownership standards are enforced across all environments • Partner with engineering teams to improve infrastructure efficiency through code Integrate FinOps into Cloud Operations • Work alongside Cloud Operations and SRE teams to ensure cost becomes a first-class operational metric • Participate in recurring cost optimization reviews • Establish operational processes for anomaly detection and remediation • Develop automated cleanup and lifecycle management solutions • Create operational playbooks for cost management and resource governance Forecast, Budget, and Report • Develop cloud consumption forecasts and spend projections • Perform variance analysis against budgets • Provide regular reporting to technical and business stakeholders • Establish and track FinOps KPIs and cloud efficiency metrics • Support chargeback and showback initiatives Support Governance and Compliance • Ensure cloud spend aligns with organizational governance policies • Support audit and compliance requirements • Promote accountability and ownership across cloud-consuming teams • Maintain documentation, standards, and operational procedures related to cloud financial management Required Qualifications Google Cloud Platform • 5+ years of cloud infrastructure or cloud operations experience • 3+ years of hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience • Strong working knowledge of: • GCP Billing • BigQuery • Compute Engine • GKE • Cloud SQL • Cloud Storage • VPC Networking • Identity and Access Management (IAM) • Grafana Infrastructure as Code • Advanced Terraform experience • Strong Terragrunt experience • Experience developing reusable infrastructure modules • Experience implementing infrastructure governance through code • Strong understanding of Git-based infrastructure workflows Automation & Development • Strong Python scripting skills • Strong SQL skills, especially BigQuery • Experience building automation for cloud operations • Familiarity with APIs and cloud-native automation frameworks • Experience developing operational tooling for engineering teams FinOps & Cloud Economics • Experience performing cloud cost analysis and optimization • Experience managing cloud budgets and forecasting • Strong understanding of: • Cost allocation strategies • Resource tagging frameworks • Chargeback/showback models • Unit economics • Financial accountability in cloud environments Preferred Qualifications • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FCP) • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect • Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer • Kubernetes administration and optimization experience • Experience supporting environments exceeding seven-figure annual cloud spend • Experience operating in SOC2, ISO27001, or regulated environments • Experience building enterprise-scale FinOps program We are seeking a highly technical FinOps Engineer to drive cloud financial management, optimization, and governance across our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment.
