Senior Backend Engineer

Salary: £63,000 - 69,000 per year Requirements: • Experience building web backends in Node.js/Typescript, or a willingness to learn on the job • Familiarity with scalable cloud architectures, design patterns, and best practices • Practical experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) • Experience with databases and data management practices, including relational databases and search engines • Experience with TDD and writing testable code, including unit, integration, and performance testing • Great verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas simply to non-engineering teammates • Ability to zoom in and out: comfortable with low-level details while making the right tradeoffs for big-picture goals • Being based in Sofia, Bulgaria, with the ability to work in the office 3 days per week • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent is a plus • Practical experience building scalable, highly reliable cloud systems supporting products used by millions of users around the world 24/7 is a plus • Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks is a plus • Experience working in cross-functional teams is a plus • An eye for user behaviour, design, and attention to detail is a plus Responsibilities: • Develop scalable and reliable systems • Develop core functionality for our customer-facing and internal products, systems, data platforms, and e-commerce capabilities using modern frameworks • Develop extensible platforms and architectures that make it possible to quickly and efficiently launch new products and lines of business • Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems • Develop the APIs powering the web and mobile platforms for our product portfolio • Work with other software engineers, designers, QAs, product managers, business stakeholders, and domain experts • Own work end-to-end, from scoping and planning through architectural design decisions, implementation, testing, production deployment, and operations Technologies: • CI/CD • Cloud • Support • JavaScript • Mobile • TDD • TypeScript • Web • NodeJS • Backend More: We are MANUAL, a fast-growing healthtech scale-up building an all-in-one healthcare platform designed to help people quickly and safely diagnose possible conditions, get treatment, and support them in living higher-quality lives.
