Senior Accountant
Clerk Grade: 9/10
Annual Salary Range: $133,348 - $146,945 plus superannuation
Employment Type: Full-time, Ongoing
Location: Darlinghurst, Sydney (hybrid work options available)
About this role
The Independent Review Office (IRO) is seeking an
experienced Senior Accountant to manage financial and management
accounting services, including oversight of the grants invoicing
function. The role supports the effective delivery of IRO’s financial
obligations through financial planning, analysis and reporting, savings
initiatives, statutory compliance and sound financial control.
Working closely with senior leaders, business teams and
external stakeholders, you will provide specialist financial advice, prepare
financial submissions and reporting, develop and monitor financial key
performance indicators, and contribute to policies, procedures and practices
that support accurate reporting, timely grant payments and continuous
improvement of financial systems and processes.

The Independent Review Office (IRO) is an independent
statutory body in NSW that helps injured workers and motor vehicle accident
claimants resolve disputes with insurers and provides legal funding to support
claimants through the claims process.

What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
• Prepare regular financial performance reports and analysis, identifying key drivers, trends, variances and emerging issues
• Establish and maintain effective financial management and control frameworks that comply with accounting standards, NSW Treasury requirements and contemporary accounting practices
• Provide specialist technical advice, support and training on financial management, accounting policies and procedures, statutory reporting and funding arrangements
• Develop, implement and report on financial key performance indicators that support organisational objectives
• Undertake financial and commercial analysis, including assessing the financial impacts and viability of initiatives and projects
• Manage the preparation of financial submissions, ensuring requirements are met within agreed timeframes and to the required standard
• Oversee the grants invoicing function, ensuring invoices are accurate, authorised and processed in accordance with funding agreements, internal controls and legislative requirements
• Identify and resolve issues affecting payment timelines, coordinating effectively across operational, legal and finance functions
• Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems, policies and processes
What we’re looking for
You will bring:
• A proven record in accounting gained in a commercial environment and/or the public sector
• Strong experience in financial and management accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, statutory reporting and complex financial analysisSound knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls, legislative requirements and NSW public sector financial policies and guidelines
• Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate reports, submissions and advice for senior stakeholders and decision-makers
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters and resolve issues
• The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain quality and accuracy in a high-volume environment
• A relevant tertiary and professional qualification, with eligibility for membership of a recognised professional accounting body such as CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
