Job Description
A global technology company is expanding its engineering organization and is seeking a Principal Computer Vision Scientist to lead the research, development, and deployment of advanced Computer Vision and AI/ML solutions. This is a senior technical leadership role for an experienced specialist who thrives at the intersection of research and real-world product development, transforming cutting‑edge AI into scalable, production‑ready applications.
Working closely with engineering, product, and business teams, you will drive the technical vision for computer vision initiatives while remaining hands‑on with model development, experimentation, and deployment.
What You'll Do
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced Computer Vision and Machine Learning solutions.
• Define model architectures, experimentation strategies, evaluation methodologies, and production readiness standards.
• Develop, train, fine‑tune, and optimise models for object detection, image classification, semantic segmentation, OCR, visual search, feature matching, and image understanding.
• Own the end‑to‑end machine learning lifecycle, including data preparation, annotation strategy, model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Build prototypes and proof‑of‑concepts to validate new technologies and product ideas.
• Analyse model performance, identify failure cases, and drive continuous improvements through data‑driven experimentation.
• Partner with software engineers to integrate AI models into production applications and services.
• Establish best practices for MLOps, model versioning, experiment tracking, reproducibility, and deployment.
• Evaluate emerging research, open‑source technologies, and AI frameworks for practical adoption.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across AI and Computer Vision initiatives.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Leaders, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to deliver production‑ready AI capabilities.
What We're Looking For
• PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of hands‑on industry experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Deep Learning.
• Strong expertise in Python and modern machine learning frameworks including PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
• Experience with OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, scikit‑learn, and the wider Python AI ecosystem.
• Deep understanding of modern Computer Vision techniques including CNNs, Vision Transformers, YOLO, Mask R‑CNN, CLIP, Segment Anything (SAM), and related architectures.
• Proven experience deploying AI/ML models into production environments.
• Strong knowledge of model optimisation, inference performance, scalability, latency, and reliability.
• Experience with REST APIs, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, experiment tracking, and MLOps practices.
• Strong understanding of dataset creation, annotation workflows, data quality, and model evaluation methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience working within Agile software development environments.
Nice to Have
• Postdoctoral or significant industry research experience in Computer Vision or AI.
• Publications, patents, or a strong applied research portfolio.
• Experience leading AI/ML technical strategy and mentoring engineering teams.
• Knowledge of edge AI technologies such as ONNX, TensorRT, OpenVINO, TensorFlow Lite, or CoreML.
• Experience with multimodal AI, vision‑language models, generative AI, or large‑scale image processing.
• Familiarity with cloud AI platforms and production ML monitoring.
• Experience within logistics, manufacturing, supply chain, warehouse automation, or enterprise technology environments.
What You'll Gain
• Opportunity to shape the future of AI and Computer Vision within a growing global engineering organisation.
• Work on challenging, production‑scale AI solutions with real business impact.
• Collaborate with experienced software engineers, architects, and AI specialists.
• Ongoing professional development and exposure to cutting‑edge AI technologies.
• Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
If you're passionate about advancing Computer Vision technologies and delivering production‑ready AI solutions that solve complex real‑world problems, we'd love to hear from you.
