Introduction Contract Type: 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with potential for renewal based on project requirements and performance) Work Model: Hybrid (Cape Town based). Industry: Financial Services (Intermediary & Wealth Management Technology). Role Summary We are seeking a talented and inquisitive Developer to join our Intermediary Applications team on a focused 6-month project basis. You will be responsible for building and enhancing the digital tools used by financial intermediaries to service their clients effectively. This is not a role for someone who simply writes code to specification. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about leveraging Artificial Intelligence to write better code, automate testing, and solve complex business problems. Our CIO is an AI evangelist, and we need developers who actively experiment with large language models and machine learning capabilities to push the boundaries of what our applications can do. We need curious, lifelong learners who are eager to adopt new technologies, challenge legacy systems, and contribute to a culture of innovation. Duties & Responsibilities • Full Stack Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy robust, scalable, and secure applications for the financial advisory ecosystem. (Specific stack to be discussed, but candidates should be comfortable across the full spectrum of development). • AI Integration: Proactively identify opportunities to integrate AI capabilities (e.g., natural language processing, predictive analytics, or automation) into the application suite to enhance user experience and operational efficiency. • Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and contribute to the team's continuous improvement of development standards. • Collaboration: Work closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters in an Agile pod to translate user stories into functional, high-quality features. • Problem Solving: Tackle complex technical challenges, including systems integration, data migration, and performance optimisation, within the regulated financial services environment. • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly in the AI/ML space, and advocate for their adoption where they add tangible business value. Desired Experience & Qualification Qualifications & Experience: • A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in software development. • Essential: Prior experience working within the Financial Services sector (specifically Wealth Management, Long-Term Insurance, or Intermediary distribution channels) is highly advantageous. • Proven experience working in Agile development teams. Technical Skills: • Strong experience in modern programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript). • Solid experience with front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js) and back-end development (APIs, microservices). • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, containerisation such as Docker/Kubernetes). • Proficiency in SQL and database design. • Critical: Demonstrable experience or a strong portfolio of using AI tools and capabilities in your development workflow. This could include: • Using AI pair-programming tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Codeium). • Integrating AI/ML APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services) into applications. • Building or contributing to AI-driven features or automation scripts.
