Business Data Analyst – Data Quality & Governance (Banking)

Data Governance Business Systems Analyst – Financial Data, Data Quality & SQL
Location: Toronto – Hybrid 2 days a week in office
Key Responsibilities
• Support the implementation and execution of Data Governance frameworks for financial, risk, lending, and regulatory data.
• Identify and document Critical Data Elements (CDEs), including definitions, ownership, stewardship, and data flows.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end data lineage, metadata, and source-to-target mappings.
• Define, monitor, and improve Data Quality controls and standards.
• Perform data reconciliation, variance analysis, and investigate data quality issues.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and coordinate remediation with business and technology teams.
• Document business rules, transformation logic, data mappings, and system dependencies.
• Facilitate stakeholder discussions to establish data ownership, resolve issues, and drive governance initiatives.
• Track data quality issues, risks, remediation actions, and governance decisions.
• Prepare governance reports, issue summaries, and audit/regulatory documentation.
• Support compliance, risk, audit, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Promote consistent data governance, metadata, and data quality practices across the organization.

1. Financial Domain Knowledge
• Knowledge of financial products, treasury, credit risk, exposures, and regulatory reporting.
• Experience with financial/risk reporting and business rules.
2. Data Governance
• Experience with data lineage, metadata, CDEs, and data ownership.
• Strong understanding of Data Quality controls (accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, etc.).
3. Stakeholder Management
• Ability to work with Finance, Risk, Technology, Compliance, and Operations teams.
• Strong communication, issue resolution, and governance reporting skills.
Top 3 Preferred Skills
1. Data Analysis & SQL
• Strong SQL, data reconciliation, variance analysis, and root-cause investigation skills.
2. Financial Systems & Reporting
• Familiarity with lending, treasury, risk, data warehouse, and regulatory reporting systems (Loan IQ/APMS is a plus).
3. Documentation & Issue Management
• Experience with issue tracking, remediation, data lineage, mappings, governance reporting, and business/technical documentation.
Education & Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• Relevant certifications (CDMP, CBAP, CFA, FRM, CPA, etc.) preferred.
• Equivalent education and professional experience will be considered.
