Job Description

Position Summary The Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Performance plays a key role in supporting strategic financial planning, performance reporting, and organizational decision-making. Reporting within the Finance team, this position is responsible for all aspects of financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, performance reporting, and business case development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with operational leaders to ensure effective financial stewardship, identify opportunities for improvement, and support organizational growth. Key Responsibilities Financial/Business Planning & Analysis Prepare annual operating budgets, multi-year business plans, and financial forecasts. Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department Directors. Develop accurate financial forecasts and scenario analyses, clearly articulating key assumptions, risks, and business impacts to support effective decision-making. Monitor actual results against budgets and forecasts, providing detailed variance analysis and recommendations. Perform statistical analysis and prepare reports on operational and financial performance, cash flow, working capital, and KPIs etc. to support organizational planning and performance management. Prepare complex financial models, including sensitivity and scenario analyses. Analyze trends in resident demographics, occupancy rates, healthcare costs, government funding, and reimbursement mechanisms. Reporting Develop and prepare monthly and quarterly financial/business reports for senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders. Lead ongoing enhancements to reporting processes by leveraging Business Intelligence tools and analytics to automate reporting, improve data accuracy, strengthen insights, and support informed decision-making. Monitor and report on organizational financial and business performance, resource utilization, expenditure trends, and budget targets. Recommend financial and operational improvements to support balanced budgets and organizational objectives. Communicate financial and operational performance, trends, and recommendations clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Ensure all Ministry and ad hoc reporting requirements are accurately completed and submitted on time in accordance with established guidelines and deadlines. Support the preparation, review, and coordination of meeting materials for Senior Leadership Team, Finance & Audit Committee, and Board meetings, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and delivered within established timelines. Strategic Business Support Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate strategic initiatives and business plans. Assess the financial impact of proposed strategies and provide recommendations to optimize organizational performance. Support the development of business cases, financial and operational analyses, and departmental initiatives. Identify new business opportunities and develop financial recommendations, business proposals, and revenue-generation strategies. Identify financial/operational risks and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies. Operational Finance Collaborate with operational leaders to optimize resource allocation while maintaining high-quality resident care. Support implementation and monitoring of cost-control initiatives. Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective actions where appropriate. Compliance & Stakeholder Management Ensure compliance with healthcare finance regulations, accounting standards, and funding requirements. Stay current on government funding programs and regulations affecting long-term care organizations. Prepare required financial/statistical reports for government agencies and support audits and inspections. Collaborate with external auditors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders as required. Support procurement and contract management processes, ensuring contracts are administered effectively, vendor performance is evaluated regularly, and all activities comply with established policies and requirements. Support the organization's Risk Management reporting process by coordinating data collection, monitoring key risk indicators, preparing reports, and ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of enterprise risks to management and stakeholders. Other Duties Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline. Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is considered an asset. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or active pursuit of the designation. Experience Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive financial/business analysis experience, preferably within the healthcare or long-term care sector. Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance analysis. Experience with enterprise financial systems and budgeting software. Technical Skills Advanced financial modeling skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Power BI, Adaptive Planning, Microsoft Dynamics 365, PeopleSoft, or similar enterprise financial systems is considered an asset. Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and industry best practices. Core Competencies Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
