Job Description

Own statutory reporting and audit liaison with broad exposure across the full finance function. Our client is a prominent organisation dedicated to advancing the renewable energy sector in Australia. By investing in research, development, and commercialisation activities, our client contributes to Australia’s transition to a sustainable and low-emission future. They work closely with industry and government bodies to foster collaboration and drive positive change in the renewable energy sector. The Opportunity This agency is looking for an EL1 Financial Accountant to join its finance team. You’ll take ownership of the financial statements, and act as the agency’s primary point of contact for its auditors. You’ll also have an opportunity to: • Gain broad exposure across financial statements, month-end processing and asset accounting, rather than one narrow function • Direct liaison with the ANAO and internal audit, with genuine ownership of the audit relationship • Work in a small team where your contribution to statutory reporting is directly visible • Secure a long-term non-ongoing contract, or by Section 26 transfer for current APS employees The Role This role covers the full financial accounting cycle for the agency, from monthly close through to annual statutory reporting. Your responsibilities will include: • Preparing annual and monthly financial statements • Managing the month-end process, including accruals, prepayments and reconciliations • Implementing new and updated accounting standards and reporting requirements • Manage asset accounting, including stocktake, revaluation and impairment • Acting as the agency’s primary liaison with the ANAO and internal audit • Preparing compliance reporting for the agency The Ideal Person You’re CA or CPA qualified, with solid technical experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end processes in a federal government context. You might already work in a similar accounting role, or currently work in external audit and be looking to move to the other side of the desk. You will bring the following skills and experience: • CA or CPA qualification • Experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments and reconciliations • A working understanding of accounting standards and their practical application to financial reporting To be considered for this role you must an Australian Citizen and have an existing baseline security clearance. Salary / Rate • $125k – $135k + Super • Long-term non-ongoing contract, or by Section 26 transfer for current APS employees • Based in Canberra, with 2 days a week working from home
