Job Description
Role: Power BI Developer
Location: Remote, Canada
Rate: CAD 55 per hour + HST
Power BI Developer:
Responsibilities
• Data Source Integration & Transformation:
• Connect to, import, and transform data from various data sources (e.g., SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, web services, etc.).
• Perform data cleaning, shaping, and transformation using Power Query (M language) within Power BI Desktop.
• Develop and maintain robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for data ingestion.
• Data Modeling & DAX Development:
• Design and develop optimized data models within Power BI, including star and snowflake schemas, to support reporting requirements.
• Write complex DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas to create calculated columns, measures, and tables for advanced analytics.
• Ensure data model efficiency and performance.
• Report & Dashboard Creation:
• Design, develop, and publish interactive and visually appealing Power BI reports and dashboards based on business requirements.
• Utilize various visualization types effectively to convey insights clearly.
• Implement row-level security (RLS) to ensure data confidentiality and access control.
• Performance Optimization & Maintenance:
• Optimize Power BI reports and dashboards for performance and scalability.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data refreshes, gateway issues, and report performance problems.
• Maintain and update existing Power BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
• Collaboration & Communication:
• Work closely with business stakeholders, data analysts, and other IT teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and Power BI solutions.
• Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Document development processes, data models, and report specifications.
• Best Practices & Governance:
• Adhere to Power BI development best practices, naming conventions, and governance standards.
• Stay updated with the latest Power BI features and updates, evaluating their potential application.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
• Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or other relevant Power BI/Azure certifications.
• Cloud Experience: Experience with Microsoft Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage).
• Programming Skills: Knowledge of other programming languages like Python or R for data analysis and integration.
• Data Visualization Tools: Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, QlikView) is a plus.
• Domain Knowledge: Previous experience in specific industry domains (e.g., Finance, Healthcare, Retail) where data analysis is critical.
