Job Description
A premier international Steel, manufacturing & project solutions company are seeking an experienced Accountant to join their finance team in Geelong. Working across multiple Australian and international entities, this role offers genuine scope, autonomy and responsibility — ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of their work and thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance , you will act as the 2IC within the finance function, overseeing core accounting operations, supporting strategic financial reporting, and guiding a small team.
The Role
As the Accountant, you will manage day‑to‑day financial operations across several entities and ensure accurate, timely reporting. Key responsibilities include:
• Multi‑entity oversight across Australian and overseas businesses
• Balance sheet management and monthly reconciliations
• End‑of‑month reporting and preparation of management accounts
• Review, analyse and prepare financial reports for senior leadership
• Work closely with the Head of Finance on budgeting, forecasting and financial controls
• Oversee and support the Bookkeeper and Payroll Officer
• Ensure compliance, accuracy and strong financial governance across all entities
• Manage daily bank reconciliations.
• Drive process improvement and maintain high standards of financial integrity
• Use Xero and Workbench to manage accounting workflows and reporting About You
To be successful, you will bring:
• Tertiary qualification in accounting is essential
• Strong experience as an Accountant ideally within a commercial, construction or industrial environment
• Minimum of 8 years’ accounting experience
• Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) preferred.
• Proven capability managing multi‑entity accounting
• Solid understanding of balance sheets, management accounts and financial reporting
• Experience with Xero (essential) and Workbench (advantageous)
• Ability to work autonomously , take ownership and deliver to deadlines
• Confident communication skills and the ability to support and guide junior finance staff
• Previous experience managing a small team
