Job Intro Data Analyst - Johannesburg, GP Gauteng Data Analyst A mid-level Data Analyst role focused on building trusted reporting, turning complex operational and financial data into clear insight, and supporting decision-making across a technology-led financial services environment.Job Specification ABOUT THE ROLE This mid-level, hands-on role sits within the Tech & Data function and reports to the Tech & Data Team Lead, based in Sandton with some flexibility in work arrangement. It is integral to delivering reliable data, insight and reporting to leadership and business teams in a regulated, information-intensive financial services setting.Offer Key responsibilities include • Build and maintain high-quality Power BI dashboards and reports for executives, operations, finance, sales, credit/risk and procurement • Write SQL queries to extract, clean, join, aggregate and analyse data from source systems, ideally including PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server • Investigate trends, patterns, anomalies, bottlenecks and opportunities in the data, explaining clearly what is driving them and their commercial relevance • Produce concise insight notes and analysis packs with clear findings and recommended actions for leadership and operational teams • Prepare reusable, well-structured datasets for reporting, analysis and decision support across the organisation • Identify data quality issues such as gaps, inconsistencies, missing values and duplicates, and collaborate with technical teams to resolve these at source • Improve the structure, reliability and performance of reporting datasets and analytical queries over time • Use approved Claude-based AI tools to accelerate SQL/reporting development, summarise findings and support documentation, carefully validating all outputs before use WHAT YOU'LL NEED • Strong SQL capability, including writing complex queries, joining tables, aggregating data and diagnosing data quality issues • Proven experience with Power BI (or a similar BI tool) to build decision-focused dashboards, data models and meaningful visuals • Solid data analysis skills, with the ability to identify patterns, trends and anomalies and interpret their commercial meaning • Understanding of data modelling, including relationships between entities, tables, metrics and reporting models • Advanced Excel skills for spreadsheets, analysis and reconciliations • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and succinctly to non-technical stakeholders • Practical ability to use approved AI tools responsibly to accelerate analysis, reporting and documentation NICE TO HAVE • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server • Exposure to Power Platform components such as Dataverse, Power Apps or Power Automate • Experience using Python or R for analysis or statistical work • Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL/ELT concepts or cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure, Fabric, Synapse, Databricks) • Background in financial services, lending or fintech environments WHY JOIN US Operating within the financial services sector, this role provides exposure to complex operational, financial, client, supplier and deal data in a highly regulated, data-rich environment.
