Job Description

Scope : The Solution Architect will play a pivotal role in leading the architecture and design of Chubbs core insurance system transformation. The focus is on design and governance of end to end technology solutions for insurance applications, ensuring they are business aligned, secure, scalable, and consistent with enterprise architecture standards. The role acts as a key bridge between business stakeholders (underwriting, claims, operations, actuarial, finance), platform engineering, and delivery teams to define solutions that support profitable growth, operational efficiency, and excellent experience. - Lines of business : P&C, Personal Lines, Specialty and A&H - Domain coverage : Distribution, quote & bind, policy, billing, claims, reinsurance, catastrophe management and finance - Solution types : insurance packaged platforms, custom build, digital portals, finance/shared services applications, integration, data & analytics, workflow/automation Key Responsibilities : 1. Solution Architecture & Design : - Lead the design of end to end solutions across underwriting, policy, claims, billing, reinsurance, underwriting, and digital channels. - Produce and maintain architecture artefacts (solution diagrams, interface specifications, design decisions) in line with standards. - Design for non functional requirements (performance, availability, security, resilience, supportability). - Liaise with analytics, infrastructure, operational resilience and security to have an end-to-end solution design. 2. Business & Stakeholder Engagement : - Work closely with underwriting, claims, operations, actuarial, finance, and distribution stakeholders to understand business objectives, products, and processes. - Translate business requirements and pain points into viable solution options, highlighting impacts, risks, and trade offs. - Participate in governance forums (architecture boards, design reviews, project steering groups) to present and defend solution designs. 3. Integration & Data : - Design integration patterns between applications, platforms, shared services, and external partners. - Define data flows and key data entities across underwriting, claims, finance, and regulatory reporting; ensure data quality, lineage, and appropriate use. - Promote standardized API design patterns, and reusable services to reduce duplication and increase agility. 4. Initiative Delivery Support & Technical Leadership : - Provide architectural guidance to product owners, business analysts, developers, testers, and vendors throughout the delivery lifecycle. - Review solution designs, estimates, and technical decisions from delivery teams, ensuring alignment with target architecture. - Support issue resolution and root cause analysis for complex production or integration issues related to solutions. 5. Risk, Compliance & Security : - Ensure solutions align with internal risk, security, and compliance policies, and support applicable P&C regulatory and reporting needs. - Embed controls for data protection, auditability, access management, and operational resilience in solution designs. 6. Continuous Improvement & Strategy : - Contribute to technology roadmaps and target architecture, including decommissioning of legacy systems and adoption of strategic platforms. - Monitor industry and technology trends in insurance (AI, digital distribution, automation, straight through processing, data & analytics) and identify opportunities for improvement. - Promote architectural best practices, patterns, and standards. Key Relationships : 1. Internal : - Heads of technology and strategic architects - Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Actuarial, Finance, Risk & Compliance - Product Owners, Business Analysts, Project/Program Managers - Engineering teams and technical domain architects - Security, Infrastructure, Data & Analytics, Service Management and App Support 2. External : - Strategic suppliers, including vendors and implementation partners - Data providers and SaaS partners Experience & Qualifications : - 15+ years experience in IT architecture or senior design roles - 1-2 years understanding of insurance business (ideally Commercial Lines). - Prior hands on engineering experience highly desirable - Deep knowledge in at least two of the following insurance platforms, AI, cloud platforms, API led integration, microservices, and data architectures. - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). - Professional architecture or technology certifications desirable. Skills & Competencies : 1. Technical : - Solution and integration architecture design in complex environments - Adoption of target architecture patterns and standards in projects and products - Reduction in complexity, duplication, and integration issues across systems - Improved time to market and delivery quality for initiatives enabled by clear solution designs - Experience in large-scale architecture modernization, automation, and engineering excellence. - Understanding of data models, reference data, and reporting needs - Knowledge of security, resilience, and performance design principles - Proven ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively with senior leadership. - Strong background in agile methodologies and working in cross-functional teams. 2. Business & Interpersonal : - Excellent stakeholder engagement, management and leadership skills. - Ability to have difficult conversations with elegance - Sets and meets expectations and timelines - Ability to manage diverse stakeholder concerns across a global, matrixed organisation - Ability to articulate technical concepts in business terms and influence non technical stakeholders - Strong facilitation skills to guide workshops, design sessions, and decision making - Ability to balance strategic architecture direction with pragmatic delivery constraints 3.
