Senior ETL Developer

Job Summary: The Senior Software Developer - ETL role involves designing, implementing, and enhancing complex data pipelines for extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) activities. The position requires translating technical specifications into robust, tested applications while maintaining and optimizing data warehousing solutions. The developer will work closely with business stakeholders and IT professionals to deliver scalable and high-quality data solutions across various platforms and cloud environments. Responsibilities: • Design, build, automate, and optimize complex ETL/ELT data pipelines. • Develop detailed programming specifications and write code for data extraction, transformation, and loading. • Maintain, test, debug, and troubleshoot software applications and data processes. • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions. • Support data migration and integration across different database platforms and operating systems. • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation and system design models. • Provide post-implementation support and resolve technical issues. • Ensure compliance with software development lifecycle methodologies including Agile and Waterfall. • Perform performance tuning and optimization of databases and ETL processes. • Conduct design walkthroughs and participate in technical evaluations and assessments. • Use version control systems and issue tracking tools to manage development work. Required Skills & Certifications: • 5+ years of experience in data warehousing design and development focusing on ETL/ELT processes. • Advanced skills in PL/SQL, TSQL, and writing complex scripts, procedures, and packages. • Strong experience with relational databases including Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, and data modeling (relational and dimensional). • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python and Unix shell. • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, especially Azure SQL Server and Azure Data Factory. • Expertise in creating and managing Data Factory pipelines and custom Azure development. • Experience with Elasticsearch for search and reporting optimization. • Familiarity with version control (GitHub) and issue tracking systems (JIRA, Azure DevOps). • Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Oracle Exadata, and Oracle Warehouse Builder. • Experience in data migration and integration across different platforms (Windows, UNIX). • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Preferred Skills & Certifications: • Experience with rapid application development (RAD) and Agile methodologies. • Knowledge of middleware, gateways, and communication protocols. • Understanding of Information Management principles, policies, and practices. • Experience with accessibility standards such as AODA. • Technical leadership experience and ability to recommend improvements. • Experience working on inter-jurisdictional public sector projects and knowledge of related legislative frameworks. • Familiarity with OPS Enterprise Architecture and Unified I&IT Project Methodology. Special Considerations: • Hybrid work arrangement requiring 3 days per week in the office. • Must be able to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively. • Ability to provide on-going support and troubleshooting for mission-critical applications. • Compliance with organizational and industry-standard software development and architecture frameworks. Scheduling: • Hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office and remaining days remote. • Standard business hours with potential requirements for support during critical implementations or issue resolution.
