Job Description

Head of Backend Function: Engineering - Platform & Backend Location: A-8A, Knowledge Boulevard, Sector 62, Noida, Uttar Pradesh (on-site / hybrid) Reports to: CTO / VP Engineering & Product Development Direct reports: 20+ backend engineers, tech leads and engineering managers across product squads Experience: 12+ years building backend systems, including 4+ years leading engineering teams The role: We are hiring a Head of Backend Engineering to own the architecture, delivery and operational health of every server-side system at Delta6Labs. You will lead a group of 20+ backend engineers, tech leads and managers across product squads, and report directly to the CTO / VP Engineering & Product Development as part of the engineering leadership team. Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech / M.C.A. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline. Equivalent practical experience considered. What you will own: Architecture and technical direction: - Own the backend architecture across all Delta6Labs platforms - exchanges, wallets, trading systems, and white-label deployments and hold a coherent technical vision that survives client-specific pressure. - Make and document the consequential decisions: service boundaries, data ownership, synchronous versus event-driven communication, consistency models, and where we accept coupling in exchange for correctness. - Run a lightweight architecture review practice - design docs, RFCs, a technical decision record, so choices are debated before they are shipped and understood long after. - Lead the design of high-throughput, low-latency paths - order matching, order-book and market-data distribution over WebSocket, risk checks and liquidity routing with explicit latency and throughput budgets. - Own correctness-critical subsystems: the double-entry ledger, balance and fee computation, settlement and reconciliation, idempotency guarantees, and exactly-once semantics where money is involved. - Own third-party integration architecture across KYC/AML (SumSub, Veriff), blockchain analytics (Chainalysis), fiat and payment rails, market-data vendors and trading terminals such as MetaTrader 5. - Design for multi-tenancy - configuration-driven white-label deployments, tenant isolation, and the ability to ship a fix to one client without endangering the rest. Engineering execution and delivery: - Own backend delivery across squads, scoping, estimation, sequencing and commitment - and be accountable for predictable, high-quality releases against client and product timelines. - Set and enforce engineering standards: code review, testing expectations, API design and versioning, error contracts, documentation, and definition of done. - Partner closely with the Head of QA on testability, contract testing and release gating; with DevSecOps on CI/CD, infrastructure and deployment; and with Product on what is actually buildable when. - Break down and de-risk large programmes into shippable increments, with migration and rollback plans that have been thought through before they are needed. - Own technical debt as a managed portfolio, visible, prioritised and funded, rather than a backlog everyone gestures at. - Stay close enough to the code to review critical designs and pull requests, debug a production incident credibly, and keep the respect of your strongest engineers. Team leadership and development: - Lead, coach and grow a backend organisation of 20+ engineers, build the tech-lead and engineering-manager layer so the function scales beyond your own bandwidth. - Define career ladders, competency frameworks, goal setting and performance reviews; develop your strongest engineers into architects and leads, and address underperformance honestly and early. - Build a culture of engineering rigour and candour where designs are challenged on merit, incidents are learning material rather than blame material, and people raise risk early without fear. - Act as a senior technical voice with clients and stakeholders, architecture walkthroughs, and security or audit conversations. What you must bring: - 12+ years building and operating production backend systems, including 4+ years leading engineering teams, with direct experience managing a team of ten or more. - Deep distributed-systems expertise: microservices, event-driven architecture, message queues and streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar), consistency and consensus trade-offs, idempotency, and designing for partial failure. - Strong hands-on engineering depth in at least one of Node.js/TypeScript, C++ or Python, Postgres, MongoDB with the ability to reason credibly across the others. - Demonstrated ownership of a high-throughput, low-latency or high-transaction-volume production platform in fintech, payments, trading, exchange or comparable domains. - Real database expertise: relational modelling and query performance at scale (PostgreSQL or MySQL), caching (Redis), and appropriate use of time-series, analytical or NoSQL stores. - Deep API design experience - REST, WebSocket - including versioning, rate limiting, authentication and authorisation, and contracts you can hand to a third party without embarrassment. - Strong cloud and infrastructure competence: AWS or GCP, containers and Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and cost-aware architecture. - Proven production operations ownership: SLOs, observability, on-call, incident command and post-incident follow-through. - Security-conscious design instincts appropriate to a system that holds customer funds - authentication, key management, secrets handling, least privilege and auditability. - A track record of hiring, mentoring and retaining senior engineers, with specific people whose growth you can point to. - Excellent written communication design docs and decision records that other engineers can act on - and the ability to explain technical risk plainly to non-technical stakeholders and clients.
