Job Description
FMCG Industry - Category Head ( Foods ) - Based out of Chennai Location
Role Overview:
- As the Category Head for our Foods division based in Chennai, you will serve as the primary architect for the brand's growth, overseeing the entire lifecycle of our product portfolio.
- You will operate at the intersection of consumer demand and operational excellence, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Sales, and Marketing to drive market penetration.
- Your day-to-day will involve synthesizing consumer insights into actionable product strategies, managing P&L accountability, and ensuring our offerings maintain a competitive edge in both Modern Trade and General Trade channels. By bridging the gap between high-level strategy and ground-level execution, you will directly influence our market share, profitability, and long-term brand equity in the competitive FMCG landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end P&L management for the Foods category to ensure sustainable revenue growth and margin expansion across all sales channels.
- Drive product development initiatives by leveraging deep consumer insights to identify white spaces and launch innovative products that resonate with evolving market preferences.
- Formulate and execute comprehensive pricing strategies that balance competitive positioning with profitability targets to maximize market share.
- Orchestrate trade marketing and distribution strategies to ensure optimal product availability and visibility across Modern Trade and General Trade networks.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to streamline demand planning and inventory management, ensuring high service levels while minimizing operational overheads.
- Mentor and lead high-performing teams to align sales and marketing efforts, ensuring a unified approach to achieving regional and national business objectives.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated expertise in Category Management and FMCG Marketing, with a proven track record of scaling product categories in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical acumen to translate complex data sets into clear, actionable business strategies that drive top-line and bottom-line results.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and managing complex relationships with distribution partners.
- A deep understanding of the Indian retail ecosystem, specifically the nuances of Modern Trade and General Trade, to optimize distribution footprints.
- Ability to thrive in an on-site work environment in Chennai, maintaining high levels of collaboration with local teams and field operations.
Candidate Background:
- An MBA from a Premier Business School is preferred, providing a strong foundation in strategic management and financial analysis.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing market dynamics, demonstrating resilience and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a competitive industry.
