Job Description
Senior Systems Administrator - Platform Lifecycle & Automation | Enterprise Infrastructure | Sydney
Are you a Senior Systems Administrator who enjoys building, modernising and improving enterprise infrastructure rather than simply keeping the lights on?
We're partnering with a large enterprise organisation looking for an experienced infrastructure professional to lead the ongoing evolution of their Windows and Linux server platforms. This role is focused on operating system lifecycle management, platform engineering, automation and infrastructure modernisation across a large-scale enterprise environment.
If you enjoy designing better ways of working, improving platform standards and automating repetitive tasks, this is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine impact.
What You'll Be Doing
• Design, implement and continually improve enterprise Windows and Linux server environments.
• Lead operating system lifecycle activities including upgrades, migrations, standardisation and platform modernisation.
• Develop and maintain secure Server Operating Environment (SOE) standards across infrastructure platforms.
• Engineer and support virtualised environments including VMware ESXi, vCenter and virtual machine lifecycle management.
• Plan, test and implement operating system patches, security improvements and configuration changes.
• Build automation solutions using technologies such as PowerShell, Python and Terraform.
• Develop automated testing and validation capabilities using frameworks including Pester and ServerSpec.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, orchestration and infrastructure engineering best practices.
• Partner with infrastructure, security and project teams to deliver strategic technology initiatives.
• Contribute to improving platform security, resilience, availability and operational efficiency.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally bring:
• 5+ years' experience in Systems Administration, Infrastructure Engineering or Platform Engineering within enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in Windows Server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with exposure to both highly regarded.
• Experience administering VMware environments, including ESXi, vCenter and virtual machine lifecycle management.
• Proven experience delivering operating system upgrades, platform refreshes and lifecycle management initiatives.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, Terraform or similar technologies.
• Good understanding of enterprise networking, infrastructure security and identity management.
• Experience working in large enterprise or highly regulated environments.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Industry certifications such as VMware VCP, RHCSA/RHCE, Microsoft or ITIL certifications are highly regarded.
Why Apply?
• Join a large enterprise environment with modern infrastructure technologies.
• Play a key role in long-term platform strategy and infrastructure transformation.
• Work on automation, operating system engineering and platform modernisation rather than purely BAU support.
• Influence infrastructure standards, engineering practices and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with experienced infrastructure and platform engineering teams on high-impact initiatives.
If you're passionate about infrastructure engineering, automation and operating system lifecycle management, and you're looking for a role where you can shape the future of enterprise platforms, I'd love to hear from you.
