Job Description

Our client is a vertically integrated agri-processing business operating across Sub-Saharan Africa, seeking a Head of Supply Chain Management. The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg with regular travel to Lubumbashi (DRC), Malambwe Farm, and Guinea, and will be responsible for designing, building, and running the end-to-end supply chain function across all geographies and business lines. In order to be considered for this role you must have the following: • Minimum 12 - 15 years of supply chain, operations, or agri-processing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role with full P&L or budget accountability. • Demonstrated track record in agri-processing or food production (candidates from pure logistics or FMCG backgrounds without hands-on production accountability will not be considered). • Proven experience operating in Sub-Saharan Africa, with direct exposure to the logistics, regulatory, and operational realities of at least two African markets (experience in the DRC, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, or West Africa is strongly preferred). • Experience managing cross-border import and export logistics in frontier or emerging market environments. • Track record of building supply chain functions and teams. • Strong operational instinct and the ability to move between strategic planning and site-level problem-solving. • Commercially sharp, with the ability to negotiate effectively and manage supplier relationships. • High degree of self-sufficiency, resilience, pragmatism, and comfort operating in environments with limited institutional support or infrastructure gaps. • Proficient in supply chain planning tools and ERP systems, and strong in data and reporting. • English is required (written and spoken to a high professional standard), and French is a significant advantage. • High personal standards, integrity, and a willingness to spend substantial time in the field. Key Accountabilities (But not limited to) • Design the group-wide supply chain architecture, covering procurement, production operations, and logistics for all business units in DRC and Guinea. • Establish policies, processes, systems, and organisational structure required to run a professional SCM function at scale. • Own all procurement for DRC and Guinea operations, develop a qualified supplier base, and manage import logistics and customs clearance. • Oversee the operational performance of all processing facilities, setting and enforcing production planning, scheduling, and throughput targets. • Drive continuous improvement in yield, conversion efficiency, waste reduction, and cost per unit of output. • Manage all inbound logistics from source to farm or factory gate, and all outbound logistics from factory to customer. • Own the relationship with third-party logistics providers, transporters, and clearing agents. • Build, lead, and develop the SCM team across geographies. • Report supply chain performance to the CEO through operational KPIs and manage inventory levels against cash flow requirements.
