Home to the world’s most advanced electric shipbuilding program, Incat currently has the three largest battery-electric ships ever built – along with multiple hybrid-electric vessels – under construction at its Hobart shipyard, representing a strong pipeline of work that will continue for years to come. The position This newly created role is ideal for an Electrical Engineering graduate with some relevant engineering or design experience, or an engineer with up to 12 months professional experience. The Electrical Engineer (Design) provides engineering and technical support to the Electrical Design team in accordance with relevant legislation, Incat policies, organisational directives and work instructions. Working under the guidance of senior staff, this position assists in the design and development of electrical systems for vessel construction projects. The position contributes to project delivery by preparing drawings, calculations, technical documentation and reports while developing practical engineering skills in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities • Prepare electrical design drawings, calculations, reports and technical documentation under the guidance of senior staff. • Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for vessel construction and modification projects. • Ensure work complies with company standards, project specifications and applicable engineering requirements. • Develop an understanding of maritime electrical systems, classification society requirements and relevant standards. • Ensure task requirements are understood before commencing work and seek clarification where required. • Work collaboratively with senior staff and other disciplines to support project delivery. • Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, complete and submitted within required timeframes. • Assist with identifying design issues and escalating technical risks or concerns to senior staff. Qualifications and Experience • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent recognised qualification) • Understanding of electrical engineering principles. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. • Experience using CAD or engineering design software.
