About the Role
We're recruiting a Senior Data Analyst to join a Federal Government agency's data platform team. You'll work as part of the engineering-focused team that builds and operates their cloud data platform, designing, building and maintaining production data products and pipelines.
This is not a traditional analytics role - you'll own data product quality, architecture and reliability as part of the platform team. No people management, but you'll guide junior team members and collaborate closely with engineers on technical decisions.
What You'll Do
• Design and build production data pipelines and analytical products on cloud platforms (Snowflake, etc.)
• Perform data wrangling, profiling, quality assessment on complex data sources
• Write and maintain production transformation code (SQL, Python, SAS)
• Validate data pipelines, remediate defects, own data product reliability
• Prototype new data attributes and analytical products
• Present technical options and decisions to stakeholders with varying technical literacy
• Maintain code standards, documentation and knowledge-sharing practices
• Collaborate actively with platform engineers and team members on technical solutions
What You'll Need (Essential)
• Over 6 years hands-on programming experience (SQL, Python, SAS, or R)
• Proven experience building production data systems on cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure, etc.)
• Strong understanding of data pipelines, data modelling and platform architectures
• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, deliver under tight deadlines with limited supervision
• Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a technical team - active knowledge-sharing and shared accountability
• Strong communication skills - ability to translate business requirements into technical data flows
• Australian citizenship (mandatory)
• Ability to obtain Baseline security clearance
Nice-to-Have
• Data platform infrastructure experience (DevOps, CI/CD for data)
• SAS Viya
• Fabric / Power BI
About the Organisation
