Operating successfully for over 24 years, our continued growth has led to a recent expansion into a larger facility in Regency Park. We take immense pride in our craftsmanship, solid work ethic, and supportive team culture. We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Metal Machinist / CNC Specialist to join our production team. In this role, your primary responsibility will be setting up, programming, and operating precision tools and machinery to shape high-tolerance steel components for our bespoke architectural doors and windows. This position is ideal for a precision-focused tradesperson with comprehensive experience in both complex manual milling and turning operations alongside advanced CNC programming. Working alongside our workshop floor team, you will enhance productivity, ensure strict quality control, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and assist in mentoring apprentice team members. Main Tasks: • Interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to determine job requirements, tooling needs, and sequence of machining operations. • Set up, program, and operate a variety of machine tools including CNC processing machines, lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders to shape steel components. • Calculate engineering parameters, feed rates, and cutting speeds; check fabricated components for conformity and extreme precision using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. • Embrace daily tradesperson challenges to diagnose, troubleshoot, and enhance overall machining and manufacturing processes. • Work closely alongside the workshop floor team to achieve optimal assembly timeframes, minimise material wastage, and maintain high-quality project outcomes. Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience: • Minimum AQF Certificate III in Engineering • Mechanical Trade (Machining) • A minimum of one year of full-time proven professional experience setting up, programming, and operating both CNC and manual metalworking machinery, or • At least 3 years of relevant experience as a Metal Machinist to substitute the formal qualification. • Forklift license • White card • Current driver’s license. Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge: • Demonstrated ability to write, edit, and optimise CNC programs (G-code/M-code or conversational) at the machine control panel. • High proficiency in traditional manual turning, milling, drilling, and surface grinding techniques. • Advanced skill in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, calipers) to hold tight tolerances. • Sound understanding of metal properties (specifically structural and architectural steel grades), insert selection, speeds, feeds, and coolant applications. • Strong spatial awareness and ability to convert complex 2D/3D engineering drawings into finished physical components. • Strong diagnostic skills for troubleshooting machining chatter, tool wear, and alignment issues. • Pride in producing clean, accurate, and repeatable craftsmanship suited for premium architectural applications.
