Software Engineer I, Canada and Emerging Markets (Fullstack)

This role is hybrid with the expectation of being in the office 1x per week. Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy. As a Software Engineer I on the Canada & Emerging Markets team, you'll join a collaborative, supportive engineering team building the features that power restaurants across North America and beyond. You'll work across the full stack — from Android POS devices in the restaurant to backend services in the cloud — gaining broad exposure to how Toast's platform works end to end. Toast is driven by building the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best: building the businesses they love. This is a growth-focused role. You'll be paired with a buddy, mentored by senior engineers, and given progressively challenging work as you ramp. You'll contribute to real features from your first sprint, participate in code reviews, and learn how to ship software that runs in thousands of restaurants. A day in the life (Responsibilities) Leverage cutting edge AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team. Build and maintain features across the full stack — Android (Kotlin), backend services (Kotlin/Java), and frontend SPAs (React/TypeScript) — under the guidance of senior engineers. Contribute to backend RESTful services (G2 services) and understand how they integrate with the POS, ToastWeb, and other platform component
