Lead Data Engineer

SUMMARY We are working with a large insurance company, and are looking for a Lead Data Engineer who will lead migration activities as part of a major data consolidation programme, moving a complex data landscape into a modern Enterprise Data Warehouse. You'll own the technical delivery of the migration stream end-to-end, ensuring deliverables meet technical standards, data governance requirements and quality best practices while enabling unified BI and reporting. The role also calls for strong Data Technical Business Analyst skills, bridging Data Engineering with Business/Product and Services teams to ensure migration solutions meet both technical and business needs. KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES • Lead end-to-end analysis, design and implementation of data migration into a modern Enterprise Data Warehouse • Analyze and document the data landscape, identifying systems, sources and migration requirements • Design and develop ETL/ELT processes using Snowflake, DBT, Informatica IDMC and AWS • Define data models supporting consolidated BI and reporting needs • Ensure migrated data architecture aligns with enterprise data standards and strategic direction • Own quality assurance for all deliverables produced by the stream team • Engage business stakeholders to determine migration requirements • Partner with Architecture, Data Governance, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure requirements and regulatory obligations are met • Manage cross-work-stream dependencies with other integration and platform teams • Provide transparent reporting on progress, risks and blockers to senior stakeholders QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or a relevant discipline • Experience delivering data migration projects in an Agile environment • Demonstrable experience of large-scale data migration , ideally between complex enterprise systems • Strong experience in Data Modelling, Data Warehouse Design and end-to-end DW/BI delivery • Proven track record leading diverse technical teams • Insurance domain experience preferred TECHNICAL SKILLS • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake, DBT, Informatica IDMC, AWS and DevOps tools • End-to-end data warehousing experience: data modelling, ETL/ELT development, reporting and visualization • Proven ability to deliver against formal Agile/Scrum methodologies • Deep understanding of data governance principles and best practices • Strong project planning, tracking and forecasting skills • Superior communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills • Comfortable in high-pressure, timeline-driven environments • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities IMPORTANT TO YOUR SUCCESS • Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on capability in modern data engineering technologies (Snowflake, DBT, Informatica IDMC, AWS) • Migration Experience: Proven experience leading large-scale, complex data migrations • Leadership Presence: Ability to lead and guide technical teams through complex migration challenges • Stakeholder Influence: Strong communication skills to engage and influence across the business • Delivery Focus: Track record of delivering complex data migration projects on time and to quality standards • Agile Mindset: Comfortable working in Agile/SAFe frameworks with a focus on iterative delivery
