Job Description
The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, conducts fundamental and applied research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, climate change, and environmental change in and around Southeast Asia, with the mission of contributing towards safer and more sustainable societies. For more details, please view https://earthobservatory.sg/ The EOS Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS) is looking for a Research Assistant to contribute to the development of ground-truth IoT sensing systems to support satellite-based monitoring of water levels, flooding, and other environmental conditions across various landscapes. The role will focus on hardware/IoT development, sensor integration, field testing, data collection, technical documentation, and stakeholder engagement with research and deployment partners. The role supports EOS-RS’s broader mission of translating remote sensing research into practical tools for sustainability, agriculture, and environmental monitoring. Key Responsibilities: Design, prototype, test, and improve IoT-based environmental monitoring devices for field data collection. Support the design of reliable field deployment setups, including power management, enclosure considerations, connectivity, and maintenance workflows. Support field deployment and pilot testing of IoT monitoring devices in agricultural, rural, or flood-prone environments. Process and organise ground-truth sensor data to support validation of satellite-derived observations, including water level, flooding, waterlogging, and environmental change indicators. Maintain clear technical documentation for hardware design, firmware, deployment procedures, troubleshooting steps, and field testing results. Support engagement with research partners, NGOs, public agencies, agricultural stakeholders, and industry collaborators involved in sustainable agriculture, water management, and environmental monitoring.
